I like the look of it, not sure how the owners of genuine Willys Jeeps will feel and react to this special edition.
I would love to have a TJ Wrangler alongside my 90 but funds don't allow it. We can all dream can't we?

Depending on what the replacement Defender ends up like there might be a few more Wranglers appearing in peoples driveways if the new Defender moves too far away from what most people traditionally think (rugged simplicity?)that a Defender should be. With the exception of the Post Office Jeeps (I think)the Wrangler has nearly always been a leisure vehicle and not really a commercial so the Wrangler is always going to have a limited market as there is not a huge amount of cargo carrying load space especially the SWB.
Running costs will also be quite high as it`s made in the country where petrol is around £2-£2.25p a gallon so gas mileage isn`t as big an issue as it is in good old rip off UK! It`s sad that it would appear we as a country no longer have the skills or the determination to keep iconic things like Concorde/Defender updated to enable it to continue in todays world. Sad
However who knows what the future holds! Very Happy Tata is an Indian company and an updated(?) version of the old Morris Oxford (Hindustan Ambassador) is still made in India. Who knows we might be importing the old Defender from India in a few years time! Smile

Hmmm... let me get this straight in my mind...

People on this thread are slating Jeep for building this vehicle that has a nod back to the old Jeep of yester-year, saying it's got nothing in common with it...

Yet it's fine for Land Rover to build the Heritage model (that just has white guages, fancy green paint, silver hinges and god awful looking leather seats) and that's as near to a S1 and everyone loves it....

At least Jeep are pro-active instead of just delving into the old stock parts bin and conbbling something together, and maybe painting the headlight surrounds a bit... Rolling Eyes

+1 Smile
I hate Wranglers but at least Jeep are trying to keep them alive... Tell someone you love them today because life is short.
But shout it at them in German because life is also terrifying and confusing...

Iconic
adjective

def: A bit past it; no longer fit for purpose, but brings a tear to the eye of those who's dad had one/flew on one/fired one as a kid. See Defender, Austin 1100, rickets.

“the old Morris Oxford (Hindustan Ambassador) is still made in India. Who knows we might be importing the old Defender from India in a few years time!”

The Defender might well be built and marketed in other countries when production ceases in the UK. But in exactly the same way as Maruti in India have extended the life of old Suzuki models, there’s no way they’ll find their way back to the UK to compete with European manufactured vehicles. I actually find the Maruti Gypsy (ex-Suzuki SJ413) quite a fun vehicle, wouldn’t mind one myself.

Back to this thread, my 2011 2.4 110XS will be due for replacement in 2015 or so, my LR dealer has my five hundred quid deposit for one of the last Defenders .

If it’s nothing other than a normal Defender with a couple of badges, somebody else can have my slot, I like the look of the convertible DC100.

And if that isn’t available before my current Defender rusts away, yes, a Jeep like the one being discussed is very, very, very much an option.
