Rooting about in my garage the other week I came across my chainsaw that hasn't run for at least 6 years, such a hardship having mains gas in the village. So I took it in the house to spur me on to getting it sorted. Last week I delved into it when the kids had gone to bed and stripped it down on the kitchen table(much warmer than the garage) and I discovered that the fuel pipe has dissappeared, just a bit left on the carb and the rest just melted sticky blobs in the tank and under the carb. New pipe ordered since delivered and fitted, jobs a good'un. Whilst checking it over the piston was stuck in the bore and as I couldn't be asked to go outside to get some lubricant I put some cooking oil in the bore. Tried again next night and it freed off.
Today I borrowed some two stroke mix from a mate, I didn't want to make up a whole gallon as the saw is the only petrol engine I've got, and after a bit of coaxing and some brake cleaner we're up and running, apart from the smell of burnt cooking oil 
At least I didn't try to start it in the house even I drew the line at that, but it still leaves an aroma even though it hasn't been run for a good few hours now! |

There was the time when I was married and herself was out when I decided to re-foam the drivers seat of my 110 All went well untill I got to the operation of the spray foam
90% of the stuff just went airborne and started to land all over the ground floor of the house. Very pretty cobweb like strans floating in the air but turning to nearly impossible to shift lumps of snot on pictures, windows, ornaments, kitchen cabinets, kettle etc. i was very busy with a whole packet of baby wipes for an hour. If you know where to look there's still evidence of that day 4 years later  |

I was so excited having purchased a saw at a farm auction, that when I got home I didnt want to just put it into the shed without having started it myself, even though I had seen it running at the sale. So it was at the bottom of the stairs that I gave the pull cord a pull a few times and off she went.......yes my girlfriend who was upstairs in the bathroom (tactical timing), shouted down in disbeleif at what I had done. She asked If I really started up a chainsaw in the house??
"No Darling I have just fitted a doorbell and was testing it !! " Know there's a good idea !! Ambi-Pur should do a 2 stroke fumes aroma in their range 
Now there was also the time I bought a compressor from Aldi and put it together in the living room. Then test run it !! |

I once saw a plumber who was installing a central heating system in a 1950s house use a petrol chainsaw to cut the floorboards to gain access the space beneath for running pipes. To say I was surprised would be an understatement! The house stank of two-stroke exhaust for days afterwards and the cut ends were very splintered.
It wasn't my house (fortunately) and I didn't really think that it was a professional way to go about the job. If I had been the customer I would have been very concerned. |

Then there was the Christmas Holidays when my ex persuaded me to "knock through" from the dining room to the lounge. I did with my 2 stroke disc cutter on the Boxing Day. To be fair I did caccoon myself in a whole load of plastic sheeting and kept most of the dust out of the rest of the house. She was using the hoover as a dust extractor and wouldn't let me out for ages

As for starting the chainsaw in the house.........the fumes go eventually but the chain oil all up the wall is a different matter

Once tryed to fit in wall speakers the fronts where a doddle just breezeblock come to the rears it was like black cindery concrete looked like MT Vesuvias had erupted black dust and chips of concrete everywhere ended up replastering went down really well,

a few years back i used to pack up the dining table, put down a 8x4 sheet of ply then bring my r1 motorbike into the house for a winter strip down and service, you cant beat changing the oil whilst watching emmerdale, and all in the warm.
no bike now and cant get the landy through the patio doors !!  LIFE`S TOO SHORT TO DRIVE A BORING VEHICLE |

It's a pig to get off clothes, her in doors never seem to understand or be amused. I don't think I have a pair of jeans which don't have stains from 2stroke mix or chain lube 2004 TD5 Defender 90 xs station wagon |

I used to have a Ducati 750SS that lived in the kitchen by the radiator during the cold winter months .. next door used to be particularly impressed when I started that up .. Had to use flash wipes to get the two black marks off the kitchen wall.

Yep ... I rebuilt my old BSA A10 in the kitchen back in the early 90's. Complete strip down and rebuild ... took about 6 weeks Guns and Landrovers .... anything else is irrelevant. |

I completely reengined a chainsaw in front of the telly, and kelt my new 1 down the side of the bed until I first used it.

I kept a KTM in the kitchen and a Husqvarna in the living room,always had a good sniff before switchin the lights on in case the Husky had dumped it's petrol (again),there is a saying about "interesting times".
If I win the jackpot I'm buying/building a warehouse to live in,lol. Pov.spec,ftw. 2006, 110,TD5. |
