You use a pump and an on off switch

Yes you could use a pumped system.
However the simplest system is a flow through tank fitted in the right wheel arch. Capacity is about 30 litres. Cost is about £250 excluding UK VAT. Please note this tank depends on your chassis number as there was a change in pipe size TD5 and early TDCi up to chassis. Post 2008 after chassis 8A has a different filler pipe size. If you are interested in one send me a pm with your address and I will get a courier quote. Brendan |

If you're reasonably capable of doing the work or know someone who is you can always use a changeover switch and keep the two tanks independent.
The fill through tanks are OK (we have one fitted) but the capacity isn't what it is claimed (they don't allow for the fact that you lose a lot of pipework and the published figures don't allow for this). Realistically the additional capacity (as opposed to the capacity of the extra tank) is closer to 20 than 30 litres. We get around 23 additional litres in ours. Side fill through tank... http://landytravels.com/2012/12/fuel-capacity/ I have fitted both a fill through and an additional tank to our TD5 90, in terms of volume vs cost the side tank works out much better and doesn't take much longer to fit. If you use a simple pump to move fuel about make sure you have a return pipe between the tops of the two tanks, you WILL forget to turn it off at some point otherwise and end up overfilling the main tank ! Additional underseat tank... http://landytravels.com/2013/04/more-fuel-capacity/ http://landytravels.com/2013/04/fuel-system-completed/ THE best way to do it IMV is to use a changeover solenoid, they are readily available, made for the job, and allow the pickup and return pipes to be changed over via a switch on the dash and it also changes the fuel sender over. The downside is you need to change the fuelling system, probably easier on a Puma than it is on a TD5 but still a bit daunting ! http://www.yorkshireoffroadclub.net/ |

Brendan, what is the tank made of, metal or plastic? I know Britpart do a plastic one.... Land Rover Defenders. 67 years heritage, minimal appearance changes, still going strong all over the world. Not a fashion vehicle, but fashionable to own. Made for the needy, not the greedy. Ta ta Defender |

Britpart is a plastic wing tank for the 90 part number DA4547 or DA4548.
Surprise, surprise Britpart do not make that tank. To the best of my knowledge there is only one manufacturer of these plastic wing tanks. The price of these tanks can vary a lot from sub £300 to £386. You may get 'free' delivery with the more expensive ones! ![]() Land Rover changed the size of the fuel filler pipe sometime in 08 hence if you have an early Puma care needs to be about what model to get, hence question about chassis number. You see Steve - a lot more to this than an on off switch -

Boet, I have a Frontrunner 40L aux tank on my 90. It sits underneath the driver and there is a switch to pump through diesel to the main tank. it works like a bomb, haven't had any issues in 3+ years. Recently I dropped the aux tank to clean and it was spotless, even though I had not put diesel in there for 2+ years. With a total of 100L and a consumption of around 9.4-10L/100km on the open road, that gives me a range of 1000km. You can't go wrong with the Frontrunner product, and it's local ![]() 2010 Defender Puma 90 + BAS remap + Alive IC + Slickshift + Ashcroft ATB rear 2015 Range Rover Sport V8 Supercharged ![]() ![]() Defender Puma Workshop Manual: https://bit.ly/2zZ1en9 Discovery 4 Workshop Manual: https://bit.ly/2zXrtKO Range Rover/Sport L320/L322/L494 Workshop Manual: https://bit.ly/2zc58JQ |

Lekker, thanks Boet - can't ask for a better endorsement than that. I'll come look for you when next I'm in that neck of the woods. '13 Defender 90

No problem!
Just make sure the tank gets fitted by a reputable workshop. Once it's fitted, fill it up close to the workshop and take it back there so they can check if there are any leaks in the piping -- 2010 Defender Puma 90 + BAS remap + Alive IC + Slickshift + Ashcroft ATB rear 2015 Range Rover Sport V8 Supercharged ![]() ![]() Defender Puma Workshop Manual: https://bit.ly/2zZ1en9 Discovery 4 Workshop Manual: https://bit.ly/2zXrtKO Range Rover/Sport L320/L322/L494 Workshop Manual: https://bit.ly/2zc58JQ |

Hi Naks, 40 litre Frontrunner tank fitted (comfortably holds a bit more than that) - great job by BRS Offroad. Really happy with the job and the final product. 1000km + range a reality! '13 Defender 90

Great stuff!
Initially I used to tell petrol attendants to fill it up until the first click, but that just results in a bit of diesel spilling out due to the shape of the piping. Now I tell them to put in 40L, this way I always know how much there is in there. My indie also told me not to leave it empty for too long. So now I fill up both tanks and drive around for a month in between refuelling. If you are going to leave diesel in there for a while, it's probably a good idea to chuck in a bottle of Wynns Diesel Cleaner ![]() 2010 Defender Puma 90 + BAS remap + Alive IC + Slickshift + Ashcroft ATB rear 2015 Range Rover Sport V8 Supercharged ![]() ![]() Defender Puma Workshop Manual: https://bit.ly/2zZ1en9 Discovery 4 Workshop Manual: https://bit.ly/2zXrtKO Range Rover/Sport L320/L322/L494 Workshop Manual: https://bit.ly/2zc58JQ |
