none powered sub
Ok I am feeling the need for bass. Thinking I need it to fit behind the centre seat against the bulkhead. Will run it off my Genesis amp. Not after reliving my youth with a monster installation but equally things have changed since then. What is out there and who is good to buy from etc etc cheers. Rhubarb and custard let fly with their secret weapon.

If you have a 4 channel amp then you may be able to bridge 2 channels together, Alternatively buy a 'active' amp (inbuilt amp) simply plug and play, do make a difference and a neat compact solution. I have fitted a couple and originally had one myself -

Fitted to a board, which was rubber backed so no vibrations passed through to the bulkhead. The middle seat fitted just. The only downside was the person using said seat for a period of time used to geta bit of a base massge Rolling with laughter

The Genesis is a 4 by 50 but it is the loudest 50 you have ever heard. Don't want an active as I have the amp. I also have an 11inch focal but there's no way to get it behind the seats even if I make a custom box. So I need a recommendation for a decent smaller sub and enclosure though I could make one if I need to. Rhubarb and custard let fly with their secret weapon.

To mount on the bulk head behind the seat, I think you will need to make a box to give you enough volume. It probably will foul your seats Rolling Eyes Think the deepest you'll get behind the middle seat will be 125mm/5 inch so ideally you'll want a sub no deeper than 3"/75mm, as you'll make a box out of 25mm mdf. Ideally 8 maybe 1o " cone, not a 12" ( you could try your 11"focal, but i'd check yor amp will run it first) as this will suck too much power.

I heard Chris's 6" JL and for a small sub that sounded good about £180??

Trust me the amp is perfectly matched with the focal. The last time they were in a car they wer one of the best single amp sub and pair of doors systems money could buy but that was nearly 10 years ago. Rhubarb and custard let fly with their secret weapon.

I believe company's like genesis who do high end and competition amps really undersell the power so they can enter them into lower spl classes to win competitions. So the 4x50 watt will be a very very conservative idea of how much power the amp actually puts out. As for the sub, have a look at kicker L range as the area of one of the smaller versions (because they're square) will be as big as a larger round sub. They also do shallow mount subs and are a good quality brand. One thing to do when making an enclosure is get the manufacturers recommendations on enclosure size and stick to this exactly as you will get the best performance from the sub this way.

Given it could bounce a mobile phone a good couple of inches of the roof of my scooby I would agree with the underselling comment. I will go look at the kickers and have been looking at jbl too. It seems focal don't want to go down the slimline road which is a shame. Rhubarb and custard let fly with their secret weapon.

You will be governed then by the depth of sub, and how big (volume ) box you can fit Thumbs Up

Seems I have expensive tastes just been looking at jl audio and they have just the thing for a mere 270 quid. Ouch. Rhubarb and custard let fly with their secret weapon.

Shallow mount to run of my existing amp. Needs to go in a small custom box between centre seat and bulkhead in a truck cab. Rhubarb and custard let fly with their secret weapon.

Yeah that would be great cheers. The only reason I was looking at jl audio was it seems their slimline one mounts int 3.5 inches which is good for a 10. Lot of money though. Rhubarb and custard let fly with their secret weapon.

Have a look HERE., might be a bit too big perhaps and not sure if the power input will match. Worth a look anyway. Thumbs Up

**edit**
If they are a match they will be pretty potent power wise so you should be more than pleased, be careful of internal enclosure volume though. Thumbs Up No Guts, No Glory.

Yeah at 17l in decent thickness material may be an issue without going beyond the width of just the middle seat. I will have a measure up and see what I have to work with. Cheers. Rhubarb and custard let fly with their secret weapon.
