Switzerland 2002 Defender 110 Td5 CSW Zermatt Silver
Doors, Doors, Doors!
Hi all
I have a Defender 110Td5 2002.
Why is it that as soon as the temperature goes above 5dec C it is possible to close the side doors with out them bouncing back open?
Yes I know this is the wrong way round! I should be writing that, as soon as it is cold this happens but I thought I would add a twist to the story!

Could it be that the door seals go hard when it is cold or and as I have seen there is inside the latch there is a rubber stopper that could go hard with the cold, maybe it is this?

I have changed all the strikers on the door posts and re positioned them but to no avail.
Any ideas guys as all my doors are begining to suffer from dents and the door handles on the outsides are getting loose?

Greetings from thawing out Switzerland

Just to add its freezing again and the Bl..... doors are back to there usual problem!

Can anybody help?

Big Cry As nobody seems to want to help, I'll have to make do with the ratchet bands on the doors to stop the kids falling out!! Big Cry

Can anyone help please before I really do have to resort to this?

Greetings from Cold, Snowy Switzerland

That's not your problem. Your problem is that you live somewhere where the temp can go below 5C Laughing

I missed this first time around.

Have you tried re-aligning the doors? Wait till the temperature is up, then loosen off all the hinge bolts and then close the door carefully. With it closed, make sure all the gaps are good and then tighten all the blts up. You might find that witht the change in temperature the metal is expanding enough to make the door catch miss.

Vaseline or Silicone Grease.
Had a problem whereupon the rear door seal would dislodge each time I closed the door. Resolved it initially by smearing silicone grease down the seal maybe once a week. Eventually by doing this the seal sat in a different 'profile' and it no longer becomes dislodged and I no longer have to apply anything either.
Maybe vaseline or silicone grease will keep the seals from hardening as the temperature drops and allow them to remain supple enough for you to close the doors. If you go through life with your head in the sand....all people will see is an ar5e!!

Treat every day as if it is your last....one day you will be right!!

Hi Guys
Thanks for beginning to write back I was wondering if my computer was duff.
I have tried the WD 40 in the lock and on the hinges but it has only made things worse.

Silicon spray on the door seals I have also tried.

I am at the point of trying to cut the back of the door seal by the "Hip" of the door and try to remove the
tube from inside the seal to give the door space to close.
I am a bit weary of vasaline as this is supposed to be not good for rubber.

The door seals fit ok and are still in the right shape.

I have tried to line up the doors during a warm spell but the problem is still there.
There is no movement from the bulk head, all the door posts are firm. New doors here cost a fortune.

Still open to ideas.

@Glyn
I would love to do this with the doors but the Swiss police dont really like it if you are belting down the motorway with no doors on, Crash helmets, and everyone belted in with rachet straps!!!

I saw this done in Isreal when we were on holiday. They had just chains fitted to stop you falling out but they were only hooked on at one end!

Besides the sand bridging boards on the side we would get stopped just for that! (Sharp edges etc.)
An Anti tank gun would be accepted if I could prove i was working for the army....
