Don't know about the current ss ones, but when I rebuilt my tdi calipers about 10years ago there were serious issues with the ss pistons then available expanding due to heat and getting stuck. Additionally with lesser quality steel there might also be too much wear.

If done well rebuilt calipers last several years with oem pistons and I wouldn't bother with ss ones.

The rebuild is pretty easy. Just make sure you have a clean workplace.

Rolling with laughter Rolling with laughter Rolling with laughter Rolling with laughter Rolling with laughter

Ha ha ha...... Seriously just been laughing me arse off!

So here's the story........

Out in the workshop I ready all the bits I need to rebuild one of the suspected leaking calipers. New seals, SS pistons, work bench clean etc....

Loosen wheel nuts, jack her up, lower her on axle stands, remove wheel, remove pad pins, remove pads and inspect.

and inspect

and inspect

Not only is there no leaking, there is no evidence of any leaking........

Hmmm, so look for other things...... Nothing......

Oh, hang on, what's all that fresh liquid on the inner wing?

Oh Censored !.......then the laughter.

The brakes are fine and I ain't touching what ain't broke.

So, who wants to guess what the mysterious liquid is????? Craig Rogers
