Comparison on Puma v FL2 performance
Maybe a strange question but my Puma has been at the dealer for 2 weeks and they have lent me a 150 bhp FL2 and I was wondering if Stage 1 ECU map makes the Puma feel as lively as the FL?

As I say a slightly odd comparison but it will give me an idea why so many of you rave about your preferred Puma map.

Thanks BM52

we had a 08 fl2 with the 160bhp engine, it was like a rocket compared to my remapped 110 tdci.

Totally different beasts, the 110 is now a pleasure to drive loads of torque, less gear changes etc. & I'd recommend the BAS / IRB map to anyone, but I don't think you can compare the two drives.

We have the Freelander LE Sport SD4 195 BHP brilliant CAR not as versatile as the Defender but certainly a Land Rover success, had two so far and never had any problems all Original Member Pie n Pea Club.

bm52,

My 110 has a BAS remap with speed limiter removed so your welcome to drive mine to see how it goes if you want.

The FL2 dash looks the same as a Puma dash, so you could always pretend..... Euro-Leafing to infinity and beyond.....

Thanks for the replies. My family tell me the FL is not me and is too soft looking. My family seem to have been converted into proper Defender supporters without any real effort from me.

In summary - with a map it won't be as quick as a FL 150bhp but it will drive a lot better with improved flexibility, less gear changes and improved loaded hill climbing. Should be in a new job soon so once i've settled in it looks like i will be in the market for a map.

Thanks for the advice Thumbs Up
Daz - hope to be in touch re that test drive ASAP. BM52

LR2s are either 160 or 190bhp from my understanding.

its probably better across wet grassy fields than a def too!

edited to add, have just looked it up, you are right they are 150bhp - 2.2eD4 (man), 2.2TD4 (man & auto) and 190 for 2.2 SD4(auto), 420Nm for all at 1750

sorry, was wrong.

for comparioson 140bhp LR2 is 84bhp/T where as std Def 2(110) is 63bhp/T or remaped (assume 140bhp) then 73bhp/T (or 150bhp = 78bhp/T)

i expect that is the more telling difference on driveavility with the Nm figure. Cheers

You have to remember the Defender is a Ford engine and the Freelander is a Peugeot engine. Also, the defender is 2.5 tones and the Freelander is lighter, has a different gearbox and drive system Thumbs Up Gas, Grass Or Ass - Nobody Rides For Free

the FL is quite quick around town and general driving but it lacks oomph on steep motorway hills with even a moderate load, if I bought one I think I would get the 190bhp version. BM52

I'm surprised you say that. We use my wifes' TD4 to tow our large twin axle caravan and find it has plenty of grunt, although I do tend to put the gearbox in semi-auto mode and work the gears. Compared to my 110 it's faster and much more comfortable but the lighter weight does mean it's slightly more twitchy. If I'd never towed with a 110 then I probably wouldn't notice though.

The only real critisism I have of the FL is turbo lag when pulling awy from a standing start. It's ok when you're used to it but as I only drive ours sporadically, it always catches me out until I've adjusted to it Rolling Eyes Darren

there is only 100kg or so in the weight of a 110 vs LR2. Cheers
