Not sure about mileage but my fuel light comes on when I am near enough an eighth of a tank dry (halfway between the 'official' empty line and the quarter tank line on my guage, which is way too early in my mind so I don't sweat about filling up until the needle has dropped below the empty line - after that I start looking for fuel. I wouldn't take it too far below though, Defenders are not the most easy to push to a filling station.
On a long journey of course, this is irrelevant, just fill up when you can at the cheapest place. |

Mines about 40 after it comes on!! Was spluttering as I went into the garage the other day! I put just over 60 ltrs in it too so must of been empty

Yep, same here, around 8 litres I assume... Manual says: Defender "Puma" 2.4 110 County Utility (possibly the last of the 2.4's) |

Best thing to do is fill the tank when the light comes on, then subtract the amount of fuel added from the tank from the capacity, which is 60 litres on a 90.
I say this because I don't really trust the fuel gauge, mine will read half full after 200 miles, but is totally empty after 300 miles. |

My light comes on after 290-300 miles.I usually try to fill up within 10-15 miles of this event.
3/4 tank@100 miles,1/2 tank@150 miles,1/4 tank@250 miles, 1/8 tank light on@300 miles. On our 2.2 90 get about 300 miles before light comes on and tank takes 50 litres to fill. That leaves about 10 litres or max 60 miles when light comes on.
That means we will be putting a wing tank in which will extend range to 480-500 miles. Compared to our 110's that range is pretty low!

I generally find that I put in about @63 litres full to light on.

I've had engine hiccups twice after about 15-20 miles with the fuel light on. Some coasting into petrol stations was required

SAME problem with my 2.2 110 . 3 times limped and sputtered into fuel station . 15 miles for me when light comes on . and from empty to full is exactly 70L . Another example of LR cutting weight and quality off this last defender by making the tank smaller . My TD5 had a 73L tank and got 400mls from full now max miles on 2,2 is 320 . |

tank size hasnt changed, still meant to be 75L, i don't think the pickup/sender unit size has changed either. Cheers

YEP so they say but 3 times iv proved it wrong as 3 times i have run out and 3 times its took only 70L max i squeesed in was 70.20 L |

I'd guess that just means that the fuel pick up isn't reaching the bottom of the tank. Darren
