That EL sheeting looks like really useful stuff but it's a sad state of affairs when the biggest focus on a new steering guard is whether it can be back-lit. Are looks all that matter these days? Is nobody interested in whether it's actually any good as a steering guard?

If I was in the market for one of these I'd want to know things like how thick the steel is for the plate and the brackets and what grade of mounting bolts are supplied with it. I'd also be looking for countersunk bolts through the main plate as the heads of standard ones are likely to get damaged if it's used in anger. Darren

What about an alloy one to suit weight issues ???

Needs counter sunk heads but does look smart. Thumbs Up Dave

Looks good at it's price. The bolt heads look odd though. Washers?

Who said it's all about looks. It has it's purpose already adding extras just add to it. If you've got it flaunt it. Whistle

Chris - I reckon you should go for Grafty's idea. Thumbs Up TheThunder RollsπŸ‡¬πŸ‡§πŸ‡ΊπŸ‡Έ

I think we all know what makes a good steering guard by now.

Also, can I suggest using button headed cap screws? The rounded top would theoretically be less prone to damage than a hex or conventional socket cap, and avoids the expense of having the main plate countersunk.

If its' purpose is to meant to be as a functional steering guard then there's precious little evidence so far. Of course, if you're only interested in whether it looks pretty then it's a top mod and you can flaunt it all you like Rolling with laughter Darren

LRA - When you say 'little evidence of quality / functionality' why don't you buy one and test it out. I have a steering guard myself (A different one a galv one) but I've never hit it on anything but I'm glad it's there otherwise one day it could and then probably seriously damage the steering components on that single occasion... Same with Entreq yes the quality is good hence the prices also but you mean to tell me (a few) don't buy their gear because it's a premium brand only and looks good.

I agree that is a good idea too but I think they'd be best a matching colour too. Bearing in mind that that it will put the price up. FF use button head SS bolts on their "rock" guards. Looks nice and neat.

As a pre-hedge against a burned through light stalk..... No front lights anymore, but your white glossy steering guard will function as a reflector of oncoming traffic head lights so you remain well visible in the dark Thumbs Up You never actually own a Defender. You merely look after it for the next generation.

Trouble is with all you Defender drivers you like things to be practical and functional. You're not allowing for a new breed of driver who appreciates their truck looking pretty. It's all about faux walnut trim bits and leather cubby box lids these days. A glossy back-lit steering guard will be set new trends. You'll see.
