Just saw a Defender with a collapsed roof and windscreen frame and was wondering whether a 4 point, e.g. Safety Devices roll bar (the one just over the windscreen) is worth it, for the driver at least?
If so, any clue on price and whether I can fit it myself? Cheers Matt Tell someone you love them today because life is short. But shout it at them in German because life is also terrifying and confusing... |

The only time I've rolled in a Defender has been at speed and twisted a 6 point cage. In my opinion it depends what you're doing with it and hard its going to go over.

It's for potential road accidents mainly - upside down in a ditch etc. Just want some headroom left...
I would go for something more substantial but I have to fit in German garages and the 4 point is still lower than the roof. Tell someone you love them today because life is short. But shout it at them in German because life is also terrifying and confusing... |

Would a 4 point roll over bar be the same as the Tomb Raider / SVX ones? If so are they not described as screen protectors? If that is not the case then i would also be tempted.

Interesting, and not quite what I had in mind by "4-point".
The SD one in the link above appears to be essentially the same as the TR type, and I would have thought would increase the chance of survival in a "normal" on-road rollover since it is usually the screen frame that collapses - it is relatively rare (at least in a hard-top) that the entire roof crushes completely. Personally I think this is stretching the term "4-point" though since the rear mounts are simply bolted through the roof panel adjacent to the B post, which is not particularly strong. If I was going to roll one over I would prefer to have an internal hoop reinforcing the B post area. This to my mind is a true 4-point, ie the cage is attached to four strong points on the vehicle. That being said, the SD or TR type will provide more protection that you have in a standard vehicle as well as looking cool! |

It has to add some strength to the screen surround and therefore the front part of the passenger cell.
Wonder if it could be combined with this one. |

The SD/P&P cage that has an internal hoop behind the drivers & passenger seat, chassis mounted, then the front external hoop that bolts through the roof (bolting up to the internal hoop) and going down onto the bulkhead outriggers would be the minimum i'd want.
As said, they look cool and would probably save your life... far more than the 1.2mm aluminium panelling would! |

Phoenix - Safety Devices do combine the front hoop with the four point internal cage. See here:
http://www.safetydevices.com/expedition/pr...esent/655/ This is the one that is currently being installed by Foley's (on their recommendation) into our 110 USW. All the best, Peter Defender 11MY USW Last edited by pjh on 6th Nov 2012 5:02pm. Edited 1 time in total |

Funny - that was the one I was originally going for but it is a lot more expensive (materials and work) since I couldn't fit it myself. I also like the free light bar AND wifey will think it looks worth it Tell someone you love them today because life is short.
