2008 Defender 110 Puma 2.4 SVX Station Wagon Santorini Black
today we purchased a Scan Andersen 10 ...

> love the design
> heat output - runs a steady 8kw - about right for the room
> takes big logs
> has a clearwash system
> 10 year guarantee

... and got a great deal on the flue, converters etc.

thanks all for the input ... MrsBPman is looking at the wood alternatives / pellets etc - I'm off to buy a chainsaw and associated kit tomorrow Thumbs Up

Before you start a thread on what chainsaw to buy Very Happy

Bought one of these last year, easy to start, simple chain tensioner, great piece of kit

Just make sure you buy the safety kit Thumbs Up 2007 TD5 90 Hard Top

Same as mine Landlord Thumbs Up

Excellent saw, it is the third Stihl I have owned and it never misses a beat.

Only weak point I have found is the fuel tube, it perishes easily so make sure you drain the tank when finished.
Don't scrimp on the safety kit.

Clearview all the way. Had a Vision 500 (11kw) for 16 years and last week serviced it ready for winter and put the first set of fire bricks and top baffle in (20 minutes work and no tools required) still on original rope seal. Door hinges adjusts, catches adjust, its brill!!!

A Jotul wood burner (Swedish I think) has served us well for 12 years or so. Cast iron construction - advice we had was to avoid steel as ultimately it will distort. Marshfield Stoves very hepful if you're anywhere near west Wilts or south Glos.Totally agree about a Stihl chainsaw - probably been using the same one for about the same time. Lidl had a cheap chain sharpener a couple of weeks or so ago - used it but haven't needed to try the saw since. One wife - livid

I bought my last 3 wood burners from Knights in Marshfield, really good company to deal with but we're just that little bit further away now. the old boy who runs it must be 80's and whizzes up and down the ladders .. a charmed life

Quite like Sthil kit, I have one of their pressure washers ... top job - thanks for the link LandLord

Good choice with the saw. I've got one of those but got a slightly better deal by paying cash at my local Stihl dealership. The only issue i've had with it in the last three years is that the chain oil leaks out whenever the saw is left for any peiod of time, so I just drain it back out when finished. I thought it was an issue with those pesky new Stihl flippy caps but i don't think it is.

Excellent thread, with three historical woodburners and the fact within 11 hours of posting the deed was done, it must be said you're either a quick buyer or the decision had already been made.

Chainsaws, all about them and what's what can be found here:

Mal,

yes, winter is on it's way and gas & electricity don't tend to go down in price. I like to bounce ideas on the forum but I was pretty much smitten by the Scan and no horror stories emerged. Looked at the unit at the stove shop you mentioned but got £400 off buying elsewhere

Chainsaw ... had a Sthil in the past, worked well and the forum like them too

I'm in the market for a wood burner - had a good look around, and in my experience:

1. Needs to be made in UK, Europe - not Chinese
2. Needs to be about 8-10KW based on room dimensions
3. Like the look of the Scan Andersen 10

Does anyone have a Scan or can recommend a wood burner ? (I'm not keen on steel plate, i'd rather go for cast)
Esse 100 , large view glass door , burns anything . £850
