Whens the last time you had to do a CV!?

I run my own small business, and occasionally get asked to project manage other peoples jobs. Usually for the same clients that i know well enough that they trust me to bring it in safe and sound.

Been recently "head hunted" not a big fan of that phrase! but i was tracked down and asked if i would take on a bit of a pig of a job for ££££££.

They say they'd like a CV! Since i've not had a proper job since i was 19 i have no experience in doing such a thing.

Any free decent CV sites you have experience of.

i helped mrs fg do her cv several years ago when she moved up to the sunny Cotswolds.
As an employer i was suprised how much she didn't put in it; in particular adventure holidays and sailing with the disabled (she is a pe teacher). We redid the cv and she got the first job she applied for.

Put in everything about yourself and hope that you don't share the same name as some facebook idiot.

Remember, it is also just as much you wanting to work with them, as well as they wanting you!

Thanks all.

I am slightly suspicious when asked to run a job....this isn't a permanent position so contract for X being paid Y. Have they under costed it and are obliged to for fill the contract so are looking for a scape goat!

I'm gonna do some digging before laying my life bare to an agency. I always like to speak with the organ grinder as it were.

I would walk away with even thinking about it. No matter what the money. If you have been headhunted they must know your history, so why ask for a CV.
Doesn't make sense, just depends if you are money driven or work driven 110 D250 SE HT

Like you Mark...money..it's the only reason i go to work.

headhunted is the wrong phrase, but there isn't another one to describe being sought out for a role. Obviously the middleman, the agency who contacted me will get his few grand for brokering the deal.

Money is nice but not the be all and end all. I know that at the end of the working day I have passed information to the troops that if followed will save their lives. That is a big factor in my line of work. The money just makes it sweeter

I get weekly requests for my CV, lots of recruitment companies are struggling to find customers at the moment so often give you a call, telling you they have your dream job, but won't tell you who it is with etc, the call normally ends up with is you send us your CV we will send it on/let you know who it is...

In reality there is no job but it allows them to go to their prospective customer with a folder full of CV's saying "look who we have on our books" personally I think this devalue's you, as you don't know who they send it to, and where your CV ends up.

I never send out my CV blindly, I will only send my CV if I know who the job is with and if I want to work for them and tailor my CV to the job I am applying for.

When I have been on the other end, you quickly learn one thing, most CV's are the same everyone is hard working, self motivated, honest, etc etc they are all able to work in teams or on their own and all have an excellent track record in doing or delivering!!

Don't bother with how many O levels/GCSE's you got or putting down your 25 meter swimming certificate as these have no bearing to your current job.

But if you have certificates that are relevant to the job your are applying for than make sure that they are there even if they are tick box type of qualifications as these are important when a recruiter is going through their check list.

Personally I wouldn't pay for someone to write one for me but just do it myself, drop me a PM if you want some examples etc.

Thanks for your concerns Jason. I've done some digging and it's a real position with a rather large company! I have discovered Linkedin has given the info to date to them and thats why i need a decent CV as its a decent job.

I enjoy what i do but to get off the coal face is tempting, theres loads of scope and a tidy salary.

we'll see. Got to quote a factory fit out tomorrow, theres work about and i've had a good year financially so if it doesn't happen i'm not to bothered. Just fancy the role.

My father used to do CV's as a sideline from his printing business and my best bud runs a recruitment agency. I recently tapped into their talents to refine mine for a job app end of 2011 and so have mine all updated. PM me with your contacts and we can chat-can email mine to have a look at.

I got the job BTW.....! They commented on my excellent CV layout. Something must have been ok about it! 1951 80" S1 2.0
