The most I've seen from an original engine, was 280,000, but it was breathing a bit at that point, and not far off needing replacement. This was used as a tow vehicle, shuttling vehicles up and down the country, and had been remapped by me at 40,000 miles back in 2006.

We traded in my wifes' 10 year old TD5 Disco yesterday, which had covered 145k, about half in our ownership. It was tuned by Gary at Alive at around 80k. It still pulled like a train with no sign of any smoke, even on start up. It was serviced once a year and the bonnet was rarely lifted between. These engines are very hard wearing and I've no reason to doubt claims of 250k on them.
On a DII in particular, it's just a shame that some of the peripheral components aren't as robust Darren 110 USW BUILD THREAD - EXPEDITION TRAILER - 200tdi 90 BUILD THREAD - SANKEY TRAILER - IG@landroveranorak "You came in that thing? You're braver than I thought!" - Princess Leia |

My last Discovery2 TD5 did 187,000 mile sin 9 years...all by me...I bought it new, swapped for a Puma last year.
The drive-train was getting iffy, but the TD5 engine was a beaut. I was thinking of letting Ashcroft give the transmission a 187,000 mile service, but decided to get a Puma whilst I could still but the 2.4. If you want to read it, I wrote-up a 150,000 mile report here: http://www.landyzone.co.uk/lz/f8/long-term...74635.html Defender "Puma" 2.4 110 County Utility (possibly the last of the 2.4's) |

Mine is about to clock 129,000 miles an has had a head gasket and turbo go in the last 20k.
When the HG went we needed to skim the head and since I have thought it soulds a bit laboured, so doubt mine will be seein 200k, I'm no convinced 150k will be seen! 2002 Defender 110 DC |

Only a mere 140k miles on mine, injector seals, injector harness and starter solonoid. Did snap 3 manifold studs and warp the manifold late last year but still goes like a train
That's it now |

203000km, original clutch, replaced t-box for a 1.222
no problem to the engine. injectors still good. replaced the water pump, 2 years back. flywheel oil seal just started to drip a little. 10 yrs old. replaced fuel regulator at 120k km replaced fuel pump at 160k km moral of the story, the Td5 runs very well so as long it's well taken care off. regular oil change 5w40 at 10k km. From the land of the most expensive land rover defenders on planet earth. At 125k for a XS 110 csw and you get to own it only for 10yrs! Please find me a good reason to stay on this island. |

I've got a 2001 TD5 90 with only 27k on it, and it's definitely falling apart from lack of use - brake pads crumbled, exhaust had a split in a weld, rear door rusty...
Now refurbing it as the running gear is barely run in.. |
