14 vs 64 Reg - possible purchase advice needed!
Good day All,

I am hoping to be viewing a 14 and 64 reg D90 SW in the coming days and fingers crossed, buying one of them!

As I understand it, the biggest differences between the two are DSC and the alcantara headliner being standard from 64 reg on.

From pics alone, the 14 looks to be a bit tidier and 1/2 the miles of the 64, but both are very low miles to begin with.

Assuming both stack up, are there any pros/cons to consider?

Many thanks,

P

Apologies, yes, both are XS and spec wise almost identical.

The 14 has better alloys whilst the 64 has full carpeting and the mentioned DSC and headliner.

virtual identical spec / cars means you buy on condition and service history IMO.......
unless you simply prefer colour or similar??

Both the same colour as well.

So, I've got to look and the 14 reg is the one I've put an offer on.

I raised a concern that I felt the clutch pedal felt feather light which IIRC from years ago when I hand a Puma 90 2.2, the clutch had more heft to it. I did ask if by chance it's been modified but was assured it's stock. Does this seem odd, what with many putting in kits to lighten the clutch?

I'd say it's worth paying more to avoid the DSC, but I am probably a cynical Luddite. Laughing

Can someone confirm how the clutch pedal should feel? I mentioned this to the dealer and they stated it's normal for a low mileage example. However, I seem to recall my previous 90, also a Puma 2.2, felt much stiffer.

The pedal was butter soft! Feeling a tad nervous now...

It sounds to me like there might be a servo fitted on the clutch..
Not hard to check.. Lift the bonnet and have a look for a small servo and you will see the clutch master cylinder is now on the end of a servo unit..
Or it might have the lof assist spring and uprated master that some fit, but your description points to a servo.. When or if you fit that it does feel odd having such a light clutch👍

Edit.. The other give away of a servo been fitted is your coolant header tank is likely on the nearside wing now

As above

lf the clutch works fine then maybe someone fitted some kind of clutch assist device. The clutch will usually get heavier when at the end of its life, not lighter.

Thanks All.

I did look under the bonnet but wasn't looking for anything in particular. I'll ask the dealer again to check and confirm if something was added by the previous owner. He seems to think not hence my concern.

As always, the info and support on this site is fantastic.
