I cant comment on the bush company tents (a few friends have them and love them), but the awnings are brilliant. Our friend had one up in 30+ winds and gusting 50+ just before Christmas. We took it down in the end as the sides kept pulling down and nobody wants to deliberately damage kit, but I was genuinely surprised how well it stood up (it it was mine I would have put it away hours ago!)

Its a very heavy tent i wouldnt fancy that on my roof 110 Td5 Ex Utilities slowly converting into a pop top camper one day

105kg is a lot especially when you add in roof bars etc.
I took my hardshell tent off on and went for the pop top. Way more useful and hardly any weight or height penalty at all. I think the cost was probably the same or less than this set up.  |

@camelman thats exactly what we did. We were looking to upgrade roof tent and some of the 'top end' ones were bordering on roof conversion money.

Particularly if you have something like a front runner rack at the 40kg mark plus 106 kgs it's a lot of high up weight 110 Td5 Ex Utilities slowly converting into a pop top camper one day

IMHO it's pointless having a full roof rack if you put a tent on top of it. Roof bars provide all the support needed and save a lot of weight.
A pop up roof with interior fit out is ideal if your Defender is a dedicated camper. However, I do not have that luxury, my Defender has to fulfil many roles. |

My 130 also fulfills many roles inc daily driver which is why have have left the internals untouched. Having the pop top there is great however as it doesn't take up any space or weight and you always have somewhere to kip if away for the weekend etc, even if you have a couple of motorbikes in the back of the truck
