Intermittent power loss when driving. 2.4tdci
Fault developed when warm severe judder and clunking (like uj) has happened at 50mph! Then clears. No mil or lights and needles don't do anything out of the ordinary.
Ujs are tight
Has had four new injectors
Maf and map
New fuel pump a year ago
New filters 3 months ago
Coolant level fine
Battery connectors fine

How did you check the UJโ€™s? Was the fuel pump a new complete unit? $W33T $0U7H3RN $UG4R

Pump was a complete unit, checked ujs by hand for play. It feels like fuel starvation and it just stutters and clunking noise.
Only does it when warm after say 30 miles.

VCV (on the fuel pump) can cause issues with no codes, especially if there is any kind of possible fuel contamination. (Does it idle nicely? If not when cold then it could be it). Even more likely if it cuts out.

UJโ€™s can be really difficult to tell their state, I checked mine when I had problems with one bearing cup and didnโ€™t notice anything, went through an MOT and it wasnโ€™t noticed there was a failed bearing cup.
I knew something was still up, took it off (the props) and then it was evidently clear a single bearing cup had failed.
On a 90, the rear most UJ on the rear prop tends to be a favourite, at least on mine this was the one that went.
In situ they can be difficult to tell if there is an issue, sometimes itโ€™s only a single bearing of the four.
You can only tell properly by taking it off.

A little light lube like 3in1 oil on the turbo actuator pivot points wonโ€™t do any harm if you have any, worth doing anyway.

When was the MAF and MAP sensors last cleaned?

Thanks for the replies Steve, maf and map last week new parts fitted. Ticking over fine thats why it had the pump eratic tickover loss of throttle response and she finally did not start.
I was thinking vcv but with it only happening at speed and not tickover I thought maybe not.

How old is the clutch? Sticking turbo actuator can cause power loss and limp mode but not specifically MIL or DTC, or could record a DTC but no other sign.
Though it is not likely to sound mechanical, more power loss.
Flywheel and clutch spin at speed, an unbalance there I.e. a clutch spring fell out could cause a judder.
Flywheels tend to be pretty resilient.

Failing VCV does drop off power in high gears such as 5th and 6th or at 50mph plus, that does create a situation that seems to be fuel starvation, idle is not easy to tell and can still start fine.
Eventually they just cause engine to cut out, usually at low revs without notice.
One of the biggest signs I think of VCV failing is if you are driving on a slight uphill incline in say 6th, and you have to drop down to 5th even though you are giving some throttle.
Feels as if you are towing heavy, but you are not doing so and it feels as if the power is gradually dropping off and you need to drop a gear to keep it going.
Rough idle is generally only noticeable sub zero, but is not always that pronounced, I found it was the lack of power that was most noticeable in high gears.

Perhaps some live diagnostics of the injectors and fuel pump performance might be the way to go to see how things are looking there.
Might be worth checking the air filter, to see if itโ€™s heavily soiled or damp, just a possibility.
Also perhaps security of transfer box flanges and diff flanges, though youโ€™ve probably had a look at - a juddering is normally a kind of driveline imbalance somewhere. $W33T $0U7H3RN $UG4R

Clutch has done 125k but no sign of slipping even with trailer, but is having a new lof clutch kit today and ourput shaft.
The landy kept popping clips on the adaptor for the slave cylinder causing the pedal to stick to the floor.
Not sure if this is related to the clunk and judder, I put a new clip on the first time and it was solid 2 weeks and it dropped clutch fluid again.
Due to towing a lot in winter I told the garage to change all clutch parts.

Flanges are fine.

See how that goes, it may be that which is causing it.
If a spring happens to be missing from the clutch friction plate, that in its self can cause imbalance. $W33T $0U7H3RN $UG4R

Definitely replace the VCV. I would put money on it being the culprit.

I've received genuine DENSO parts from LR Parts - link below (no affiliation). Be sure to select the DENSO option from the drop down.

VCV does some very strange things when it goes bad for sure, donโ€™t suppose there is crud in the handbrake drum? $W33T $0U7H3RN $UG4R

Just picked landy up, new clutch bundle and output shaft fitted!
The splines on the output shaft were worn and the bearing on the engine side of the clutch was badly worn.(springs were fine)
Time will tell if this was the cause.

Been out today LOF clutch feels fantastic not experienced the surging/fuel starvation or drive yet, but there is a slight heitation when accelerating, tickover is fine not eratic like the last time.
Landy is smoking (whitish) a little more than usual when ticking over and in the mornings on cold start does this sound like a VCV even if tickover is fine?
