Alive Tunings No EGR Upgrade | |
After a bit of a wait Gary has finally sent me a couple of upgrade files to test on my landy. The reason for the wait was so he could thoroughly test the EGR close function on his own puma first without risking potential damage on a customers with an untested map
So I received the first file and installed it on the landy and fired it up, didn't sound any different. But when I switched off, silence. No EGR self clean cycle or beep. So plugged in the nanocom and went for a drive and got a zero reading throughout the rev range on the EGR valve position. Couple of things that I noticed straight away was just how responsive the throttle was and how smooth the power was delivered. I didn't notice an increase in power as the version I installed was the same version 2 Gary did originally for me but with the addition of the EGR closed upgrade. I also received another version of the EGR closed map that delivered a lot of power and again the responsive throttle with no lag. The only thing with that map was that it made the landy sound like a bag of spanners due to the high fuel rail pressure but these are the things you find out whilst fine tuning an individual remap.
I then gave Gary feedback on the tune and 30 mins later I got another map file version 2.1 which resolved the bag of spanners problem by reducing the rail pressure slightly. So at 04.30 this morning it was installed and me and the missus went down to Stranraer so she could get the ferry to Belfast. The first inclination of the map was a power increase in the 2000-3000 rpm range and the fact that the nanocom showed the EGR to be closed. Now this doesn't suit my driving style as I use the landy for towing so I'm after low down torque in the 1200-2500 rpm band which returns better fuel economy and less gear changes out of 6th. So I called Gary when I got back and we had a conflab on the maps he sent me so far, the results of which are that the first v2 EGR map he sent me is ideal as it does all that I want. But not to be out done Gary is doing a v2.2 map which will incorporate the torque bands of v2 and v2.1 with the power gains of v2.1. I will install that tomorrow and go for a test run vainly looking for faults with it as the service from Alive has been top notch and I would be surprised to find any.
So apologies to Gary for being a right royal pain (I see it as being a perfectionist ) in the testing phase as he did pander to my whims and yet still managed to deliver a map file that I am totally happy with, version 2 EGR and yet........Gary still wants to improve on it and fine tune it so a little more tinkering and he should be happy with it not that I'm complaining as its good to feel the subtle/unsubtle differences between each version of my remap

Well that's me happy, tried out version 2.2 EGR closed map file today and Gary has done good Good distribution of power and a smooth delivery. Cant recommend Alive (Gary Wood) enough for remaps. He took on board what I was after and tailored the remap to suit, quite a few times as it turned out Now that I'm happy he will get some peace and quite for a few days before he moves on to the next project

Many thanks for your assistance with testing this final version, Brian.
I have been tweaking and testing EGR shut for many months now, until I was 100% confident that I could keep it closed all of the time, and not log any fault codes. Since I took delivery of my new 110, I have been able to finalise the modification, and fine tune it to make it as near as perfect as I possibly can. Only then had I released it to Brian (who's badgered me to release this mod for ages!), to allow testing on his 09MY. Testing has now been done on all model years and I am happy that the finished product is of a standard you would expect from Alive Tuning. Fit once, and forget!
I am now happy to release this EGR Shut modification as a free upgrade to all my ATRIC customers.
I realise many of you have been waiting patiently for this modification, and I thank you for your patience.
All good things...
Regards,
Gary.

Gary, that is awesome news, made all the sweeter by the price tag
I haven't got the Defender at the moment (Should be somewhere between Italy and here by now) but will be interested in getting the modified map onto her when she arrives .
