LRE often say a similar thing, its not a ground clearance issue as such its a few other factors...there are some places on the Experience course a defender always hits where a disco doesnt. Mike

the few factors others being>?

having used a D3 extensively off road (less Snow) i do rate them very highly, a descent set of Mts on a D3 and i beleive it will out perform a Def on the same tyres Cheers

MM,, interesting debate re D3 to Defender off road

OK, not a D3, but a RR Sport , close enough, and have used both off road a fair bit

Put the Sport on MT tyres, and just as capable as the Defender, on occasions more so mainly due to the advanced electronics,

Back on Topic, sorry to hear more woes for Defender, but !! mine is still spot on, no troubles, Been thinking of ordering its replacement, but maybe the devil you know Whistle California F1, 75th 110 "Kermit", 50th Ann V8, 90 V8 Hybrid, 55 Series 1

You see, just because i love the RRS i wont argue Razz but i think the defender can do things it cant, but i love the RRS so fine! Mike

Defender is due back from the dealers tomorrow. Problem this time was a faulty fuel regulator, was suppling too much fuel at times and causing erratic engine noise.

The engine light came on a few times after start up and engine would rev a bit sometimes even with my foot off the trottle.

Fingers crossed thats my last trip to the dealers ! As I wont be going back for the 8th time for warranty issues . Next stop will be the Toyota Dealers Laughing

Could be the solution Nidge I did the same and did alot of trouble free miles in a Hilux Dc but it never felt the same as a 110 and not as good off road. Tell LR about your Toyota option it may get their ass in gear and sort out your problems. Good luck

now just how you feel,2 clutches,2transfer,new steering pump, still leaks water into the cab, rear windows dont stay fully up,2 axle oil leaks, doors dont fit theres a huge gap on the a posts, return fuel pipe in correctly routed, vacuum pump oil leak, paint problems, headlight surrounds rusted also door and bonnet hinge fixings rusting, central locking only works 3ft from the truck if you try in several different spots, i bought my 08 110 utility for work not realizing that it had registered a station wagon not an lgv so twice the road tax, still fighting dvla ,i ve always had a land rover but this has made me think ! i run transits they ve had vacuum pump and clutch problems since the puma engine came out in 2000 we chuck the dual mass flywheel in the bin and go back to solid ,no more clutch problems.

How about:
10 rear diffs (2 of which have been 4 pin diffs)
2 Transfer Boxes
2 Clutches
4 Pairs of Half shafts and drive flanges!
Oh and a central locking failure with the need to sound the Censored alarm at silly o'clock in the morning after opening the doors!!! All in two years and less than 25k.
The engine seems to be the only thing behaving itself (touch wood) and now the diffs are on back order for god knows how long!!!! Evil or Very Mad

As for the D3/D4 off road debate they are awesome however they are designed to be driven by people with no idea how to drive off road (Clarkson) and they are just to damn heavy!
