EGR shut to minimium tuning upgrade available at BAS & I
As many of you know, the EGR on the Puma and on many LandRovers can cause some weird and wonderful faults when the car is in standard or tuned form and most end up getting blanked of where possibile.

In some cases this is down to the EGR actuation speed or a mechanical error on some cars causing these weird glitches. Most seem to be caused on the latest LR software update with a very few people on the older software suffering or as saif a failing egr valve.

Many of you have used an EGR restriction kit with good results to help with the EGR problems – as we have not yet made public the solution we have been working on for so long untill now !

This should illiminate the need for blanking the EGR valve providing that the electrical connection is maintained and the valve fitted is shutting correctly, though blanking at the same time will cause no problem as prevention.

Jointly with Ian at IRB developments and his Puma development car we have both been working hard for some time on the EGR shut option (among a few other modifications) which we both feel should now be made available as a mapping upgrade option if required by the customer.

This option is available as an upgrade to your existing tuning and has an upgrade price of £50+vat for the function to be added to your existing BAS or IRB mapping/tuning.

BAS remap interface customers who wish for this option.
1st Need to return their car to standard.
2nd Erase the BAS remap interface using the BAS 3.66 software found in the following link.
http://www.bellautoservices.co.uk/public/bas_3.66.exe
3rd Make a new read ecu file from the car and send it to me for the option to be added to a newly created file.
4th We also need to know your old file names so we can delete them from our records as they will be now expired.

BAS interface users can upgrade here http://bellautoservices.co.uk/bas-remap-interface/

IRB development customers who wish for this upgrade option.
Must make an appointment with Ian at IRB Developments.
Ian will then program your car with a EGR shut upgrade file.

Please remember, this EGR shut option is currently only available from myself at BAS or Ian at IRB developments.

Another first for your Puma Mr. Green

Emails please are preferred as PMs can be hard to keep track of.

Pete

BAS REMAP INTERFACE USERS PLEASE NOTE AS ALWAYS USERS MUST RETURN THEIR CARS TO STANDARD BEFORE DEALER VISITS, OR THE INTERFACE MAY BE LOCKED OUT IF UPDATES ARE DONE AND IT WILL HAVE TO COME BACK FOR ERASING WHICH WILL INCURE A CHARGE.

Pete,

If I understand correctly, your 'EGR remap' keeps the EGR valve shut permanently?

Is this EGR remap available as a standalone remap, i.e., keeping the original LR map and just 'adding' the EGR shut patch? If so is this detectable by LR?

Hi
Yes im telling the EGR valve to not open at all during any of its operating strategys.

The EGR soloution can only be had with my tuning, other than that im not sure how i could provide it with no mean to program it to your car.

As with all my tuning i advise that the car be made standard before any dealer visits.

Pete,

What happens to the exhaust side of the EGR line will the heat exchanger or that side of the EGR valve soot up or anything if a blank or restrictor plate isn't installed?

Also will this upgrade also stop the valve cycling on engine shutdown? (the 5 clunks) 110 2.4TDCi

The heat exchanger should not collect that much dirt as their is no through flow of gas going into it, It will of course get some in but i cant see it being a problem not fitting a plate providing the egr valve can stay mechaniclly shut as its told to.

The exgrc-max-num-cleaning-cyc-map or in English the Number of valve open/close cycles is still set to 5 and has no real need for modification. The cycle cleaning operation depends on many things including a temprature interpolation flag, but i suppose i could tell it not to run a clean cycle also at the same time with no real extra effort needed.

The problem with doing that is it may in some cases pop up an antisticking strategy fault which is another bucket of worms to attend to.

Eventually we will let public the TOTAL egr removal, electrical and mechanical but we are still working on a user friendly removal kit and with many cars under warranty removing all the gubbings is a little obvious to the dealers so it will be one for the future.

This sounds very exciting.

Have you quantified the difference your EGR closed tuning makes (I know there are lots of variables but wondered whether you've looked at the board brush implications).

Mine comes out of warranty this month so I'll doubtless be in touch as soon as I've mugged Santa

The achievements im aiming for when offering it vary really, Some of me wanted to do it because i know of the problems egrs seem to cause on many cars not just landrovers, also to try and help with driveability and hopefully economy issues amongst a few others that will need this modification for some of our future projects we are working.

Great work Pete! Thumbs Up

I'm sure you'll have a total EGR removal kot that will be perfected over time and by the time mine is out of warranty in 2015 I can get that Whistle

Pete, I notice the software is an .exe file - is this only do-able with PC rather than Mac?

The software is for my BAS remap interface tool and its set up its not the EGR progam its self, you must have this tool to be able to have the upgrade option.

The bas.3.66.exe is a windows installer that installs the BAS remap interface software on to a windows pc. With this software the remap interface is set up for the car.

If you have a bas remap interface you need this software to read the original file that you have read from your car from the interface so you can email it to me for modification, and its needed to transfer the tuned files back to the interface.

It as said can be used in the various MAC applications that imitate windows including vmware, or its used on a genuine windoes XP/Vista 32bit pc.
