For those of you who are mildly curious as to what is actually inside the catalytic converter here's a couple of pictures. When you see one in the flesh it's no wonder that taking out the things allow the turbo to spool up so much quicker.

In the 'silencer box' there are two of these and the pipe from the manifold enters the box and all the gasses have to pass through the honeycomb.

I find it amazing that by having such a restriction in the exhaust can be of any use, no wonder there is the saying "Drive it like you stole it" that applied to Td5's when driving styles were discussed.

Oh wow I had no idea the fins were that closely packed - thanks for taking the time to post the pics.
I'm still amazed that no one does a 'sports cat' for it - like they do for petrol cars, with half the density of the original in a nice stainless canister.
