Heated TruckLite Phase 7
BCdefender, a member from Canada, in another thread kindly pointed us to this new TruckLite. With countless posts on here about all LED headlights in wintry/snowy conditions remaining too cold to avoid snow build up on the lens, TruckLite have launched a real innovation here, the heated TruckLite Phase 7. Kudos to them for being the first to launch such heated LED headlamp. Details below.

Now waiting for Nolden and JW Speaker to follow suit, and launch a heated Nolden2 and heated Speaker EVO3. Thumbs Up

Great idea. Should have done that from 'day one first generation!' Let's not go there! Rolling with laughter Thumbs Up

How do you fair with yours in Wintery conditions Eric? The single time we did have any significant snow here the build up on mine was quite bad. The light-guards retaining the snow didn't help matters either. If you go through life with your head in the sand....all people will see is an ar5e!!

What I think someone should use is those lamp sources which let off a bit of heat as well. I think they might catch on Wink  1988 90 Td5 NAS soft top

Euhhhh? Not sure I understand such complicated English phrase as Martin uses here. Is that Queen's English, or Shakespearian maybe? Can you repeat in plain cockney for this foreigner? You never actually own a Defender. You merely look after it for the next generation.

Your fishbowls would have dried out naturally then Mal, or you might have had to change your goldfishes for tropical fish, maybe Amazon Piranhas. Rolling with laughter

Now as to your question about how I fare with my EVOs in wintry conditions, well,..... you know, I have never driven in the snow since having them installed. The SVX barely has come in touch with 1 or 2 drops of rain in the last 3 years. Wink

Still, I think these heated LED lamps are one of the best developments I have seen in the last year.
If Nolden would launch such a heated version, or Speaker does, I may well change. Out of those two my choice probably would be Nolden, because I really do not like this half moon parking/DRL light of the EVO2. Much prefer the more discreet smaller parking light LED of my EVOs, and want to keep my sober Alive Tuning DRL bumper.
That being said, the heated TruckLites obviously look even more classic than Nolden and Speaker, so if Naka or other bring those to right hand driving Europe, I might go for the heated TruckLites.

And me who thought to be over with upgrades for this year, and could start saving for more already planned Entreq reliability upgrades to be installed in Germany after the winter. Thud Rolling Eyes

I think what Martin is referring to is the fact that a traditional halogen headlight bulb generates a certain amount of heat (just put your hand infront of a standard Defender headlight once it's been on for a while), which has a side-effect of melting any snow on the lens. An LED lamp obviously generates far less (almost no) heat, hence the problem of snow build-up becomes a potential issue. 2005 Td5 | 90 Station Wagon | Tonga Green

Yep I was referring to heat given off by a good old halogen bulb.

What do the car manufacturers (BMW/Audi etc) who fit LED/laser headlamps as factory fit do?  1988 90 Td5 NAS soft top

Some have washers but certainly not all. Not sure if they're heated either? Question If you go through life with your head in the sand....all people will see is an ar5e!!

^^ I think those cars all have washers, noblesse oblige, non? New Beemers, Audis, etc. with LED headlights are abound here in Geneva, even the new scooters here have LED headlights already. To my knowledge none of those have heating elements, like the new TruckLites do have, incorporated into their lenses.

To the best of my knowledge Trucklite have been offering heated lights to the American military for a number of years now.

They are available for LHD vehicles, I do not think they are available for RHD/UK spec vehicles.

^^ Fine with me Laughing With the proper E marking, bring 'em on Brendan and Peter Thumbs Up

Seriously now, reading the link from our Canadian friend, it looks like a brand new evolution of the Phase 7, so not sure at all that this has anything to do with military specs, so worth for you/Peter to dig in to. Guess I would not be the only one interested in heated LEDs. Thumbs Up

Military heated Truck-Lites have been around for a while now.

Standard Truck-Lites have product code 27270C

Heated Truck-Lite have product code 27275C

Now Truck-Lites with heated lens are definitely DOT marked which have a very different beam pattern to E marked ones. Now some questions may have to be asked. Whistle
