Puma Engine Oil alternative suppliers than LR
I suspect this topic has been done to death before so I'm quite happy if someone just refers me to the definitive statement somewhere.

My question is whether there is a mainstream off-the-shelf engine oil which is 100 per cent compliant with LR's requirement of WSS-M2C913-B and an alternative to buying the oil from your local friendly LR main dealer's Parts Department. I'm just guessing it's retailed there at a premium price but haven't asked yet in fact.

My research to date suggests this is a Ford spec and two compliant alternatives I've found are:
- Castrol Magnatec SAE 5W-30, and
- Morris Lubricants Multivis 5W/30 Semi Synthetic (MSS)
and there must be others.

However - is there anything magic about the LR stuff or indeed Ford branded stuff.

I'm in the UK and not in some extreme climate.

Thanks for your assistance. Trevor Wright

Just looked at the Castrol website at Magnatec 5W-30 and it states the following
Castrol Magnatec combines Intelligent Molecules with fully synthetic technology for a stronger layer of protection. Castrol Magnatec keeps your Ford car at its peak for longer.
Under its approvals it states
Meets Ford WSS-M2C913-A
This is differant to the 'B' you have quoted.
If you go on the 'Which oil should I use' it does state the Magnatec 5W-30 to use for the 2.4 defenders
One thing to note is that it says this is a fully synthetic oil and the Morris says Semi Synthetic.
I have also seen Comma oil with the same spec and this was Semi Synthetic.
What is Landrovers oil Semi or Fully synthetic?
How can the 2 of these Semi and Fully synthetic meet the same standard?
Over to you oil Boffins
Tony

Hi Tony - seems Castrol have a muddle on their website(s) as when I looked here:
http://129.35.64.91/bpglis/lubtds.nsf/tech...enDocument
which is a datasheet you can call up from the main Castrol site, it quoted the "-B" standard. Trevor Wright

I use Fuchs Synthetic oil which meets Land Rover / Fords spec : WSS-M2C913-B

It is a very good brand that is generally used by high performance car drivers.

Thanks Rich... Thumbs Up

Castrol Oil
Here in RSA this oil spec seems a little suited more for colder climates, besides we can't get it here other than Landrover Agents.
I tried Castrol RSA but their answer was to rather buy from the dealers to maintain warenty and that's that.
I am sure after warenty we would require the same oil as most Landy owners service their own rigs to stay away from our awful stealers here. Castrol RSA don't seem interested in the possible market here Sad
Are any of you able to get the proper stuff off the shelf in the UK and what price?
LR want about R100 per liter.

I have just been directed to this site, opieoils.co.uk who recommended http://www.opieoils.co.uk/c-1300-wss-m2c-934-b.aspx for the new 2.2 Puma. They also list an oil for the 2.4. but you will have to look that up as I didn't want that one. Hope this helps.

I used this for my latest oil change in the Puma. Meets the Ford specs you require. Great price and free delivery too.

Nick, how much are the stealers charging per litre?

If you want to save some bucks, get the Motorcraft oil from a Ford dealership, it's the same oil but much cheaper. --
