new 2.2Tdci without fuel-cooler (?)
A guy on the blacklandy.de - forum got aware of a fuel cooler missing on his rather new Defender. There ist just a bent piece of tube.
I came across an obviously very new 110" this weekend (4x4 exhibition) and this one also had just a tube. Another 110" with slightly worn brake discs but new-looking still had the cooler (as has my spring-2012-registered 110" 2.2).

In case itīs not been discussed - what was the time this was changed, and are there any other changes that came with the newest engines (injection system). Or can any 2.2 omit the cooler and put in that "tube" instead ???

Those fuel cooler pipes are surprisingly expensive if damaged, will leave you stranded too if they get damaged and leak.

Its found up the side of the engine now last time i checked, there prone to damage down below so a fuel cooler guard is a very good idea. Thumbs Up even on 2.2's were the fuel cooler is up higher you can still fit the guards to protect the fuel lines Mr. Green CSK Automotive

Straight from D4x4 website about their cooler guard;

"The 2.2 Tdci Defender does not have a fuel cooler but does have a exposed oil pipe where the 2.4's cooler would be fitted. We are fitting these guards to 2.2's to protect the oil pipe for damage as you can see in the images." Craig Rogers

i had one of these guards on the shelf in the wksp for ages. was debating whether to fit it or not.

then my fuel lines were ripped out of the cooler whilst crossing some brush..............

typical

its was soon fitted with the new pipes....

(2.4 10MY) Cheers

Well mine's definitely a MY13, 2.2 and DPF and does have a fuel cooler fitted. So if a change was made it must have been made after a certain VIN number.
