1st and 2nd were lumpy on our 2007MY and the whole box was changed within 6 months of ownership. Fine now.

My defender gear lever is rattling, particularly when overtaking and at acceleration when shifting from 5 to 6 . In the LR workshop at the moment getting a new gear stick assembly under warranty.

Clutch is strong but sweet. Pumas need another gear between 1st & 2nd for high box use. Land Rover Defenders. 67 years heritage, minimal appearance changes, still going strong all over the world. Not a fashion vehicle, but fashionable to own. Made for the needy, not the greedy. Ta ta Defender

My 2007 which has 12K miles on the clock and has a notchy gear change between 1st and 2nd and 2nd and 3rd. Its almost as if the clutch is not fully depressed during the gear change. The dealer says this is "normal" but I'm not so sure. Would this qualify for a gearbox/selector change? I am getting concerned as I only have 6 months warranty left.
Advice on how to proceed would be much appreciated, Willie Defender Virgin |

Ask to test drive a new one and compare the two and have the head mechanic in with you and get him to test yours at the same time....you have got to keep on at them every week

No problems wth mine

No thank you. Would mean I would have to change gear 3 times in 5 seconds compared to twice. I would say that 1st needs to be a little longer as it is too much of a crawler gear for pulling off in normal conditions. Glyn ![]() |
