Why not wire correctly to the battery positive through a fuse and then switch the earth for manual off control

Yeah it's really good Killer, cheers. The bumper has fewer mud traps than the factory one too!
![]() And GEllis it came with a voltage sensor as are easily available on eBay, but I don't like them. They often don't seem to work and they don't work with a 12v ignition feed but only a direct battery feed. I could've used this as it also incorporated a 'turn off with the sidelights' function but as I've said I don't want to have to rewire my wiring and switch to use the battery Again, ideally I just want a relay to dim my LEDs with the sidelight feed (no auto on/voltage sensor function) Cheers, David Land Rovers of all shapes S3 onwards… Daily is a 110 V8. |

There is a 2 way relay, has 5 contacts that will switch from one circuit to another. You have main power in going to DRL. So DRL's are on when power is applied. When side lights are switched on then relay switches power to circuit 2 which is connected to NOTHING. So DRL come ON with ignition and go OFF with sidelights. Simple. I presume if you just wanted them to dim with sidelights then a suitable resistance in Circuit 2 and connect to DRL would do the job. Ignition ON - Circuit 1 active - Full power to DRL. Sidelighta active - Circuit 2 active with resistance - 1/2 power to DRL.
I just have them switch off with sidelights on.Passed it's MOT with no problem. Tester was interested as to how it was set up. ![]() ![]() ![]() Neighbourhood Watch for Land Rover Owners http://www.landywatch.co.uk/smf2/index.php |

You may be able to help me?
I've fitted my DRLs as you can see and would just like to be able to dim them when a circuit comes on (sidelights in this case) Does an LED dimming relay exist? I don't want the voltage sensing bit though... Cheers, David Land Rovers of all shapes S3 onwards… Daily is a 110 V8. |

I've been looking into making a loom up to meet my own requirements, I want my drls to illuminate when locking and unlocking, to come on when the "ignition" is on position 2, go off or dim when the dip beam is on and ideally dim the corresponding side when the indicator is flashing (like Audis).
I've done a little research and come up with a quick sketch of how I think it will work. It will basically comprise of 4 relays some diodes and 2 Pulse-width modulation dimmer switches (apparently led lamps don't like resistors). I plan to build it using traditional relays and wire it up but If it works ok I can't see why it can't be made with micro relays on a printed circuit board. So cast your eyes over my sketch and I would be most grateful if any of the electrical gurus could give any additional advice as I'm no expert. ![]() Click image to enlarge Formerly mao99999 16 Focus RS Nitrous Blue. 11 FFRR TDV8 Vouge SE Black Black. 08 DEFENDER SVX SOFT TOP (SUPERB) 08 DEFENDER 110 DCPU Stornoway grey (Overland Exploration Unit) 05 Fiesta ST 150 Van 04 Jaguar XKR 4.2 Supercharged V8 02 DEFENDER 90 TD5 (next years soft top project) 95 DEFENDER 110 CSW 300 TDi Phoenix black 95 DEFENDER 90 HT Monti Carlo blue COUNTY 300 TDi 67 109" SERIES 2a TUNED 200 TDI 64 DAVID BROWN 990 rat look 55 86" SERIES 1 |

(Re-)read Go Beyonds' reply - this the correct way to wire them in with auto on/off AND your requirement to turn them off manually.
