Bring back Concorde
Another world icon lost to EU emissions control . Bow down
Technological brilliance lost forever that should have gone on a lifetime .

I went to Goodwood to see the Concorde they have and the tour was very interesting.

They said the real reason it was retired was the lack of spares. The fleet only had one production run as it never sold past the original orders. As the fleet aged they just ran out of stuff to keep them going, the two prototypes had been virtually stripped bare.

So lack of spares was the real reason. (and the fact one blew up)

10 years ago today wasn't it? That's gone way too fast!
I've been on the one at Manchester Airport a few times, and it certainly was a different era! An engine to TDi for!

There's an article about it on the BBC site today: http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/business-24629451

Considered opinion seems to be that the real reason for their retirement was politics rather than anything technical or financial.

Interesting anecdote about it and the SR71 too Laughing Darren

Word has it that the French have one at Toulouse airport that they bring out for taxi trials at night. So it's a worker then.

They applied some electric power and reinstated some hydraulics on the one at Manchester a couple of years ago, I think so they could droop the nose to replace a broken windscreen, but were told to decommission it again and keep it inert by the insurance company. 2021 Defender 110 X-Dynamic HSE D300 MHEV

Hi Tiger
I didn’t know that they had one at Goodwood ... so maybe I missed that.
I know the one at Brooklands though
I saw the BA fleet of them all parked at the end of the runway at T5 not long after the grounding, a sad site it was too.

During my time in the RAF I worked on the Red Arrows for a summer season as the medic at Kemble, and we had a Concord come over to do some publicity shots with the team. What a site and sound - and the acceleration when it pulled away from the reds hawks was staggering to watch.

Strange to see how small they are as I saw one parked next to a 747 once , it could nearly fit under the jumbo's wing.

Im pretty sure every one of us has a story to tell about Concorde .
I live nxt door to Prestwick airport . One of Europes longest runways , which take offf and land over the beach . The Concord used here to train pilots for years and they often commented on Prestwick being their favourite airport .
Ooooooooh the memories ! Im gonna goto bed tonight with the sound of those engines in my head Bow down

IMO, if they didn't recommission one for the Olympics then they'll never recommission one.

We stood in that car park at the side of the runway when one took off, it was very funny, a huge sound wave followed it down the runway setting off car alarms and shaking everything around.

Concorde would never be allowed to land or take off from most airpots of today due to noise emissions and the tree-hugging noise abatement warriors. Between 1997 and 2003 I was working on the RAF VC10s which like the Olympus engines the Conways of the VC10 were designed and built in the same era.
Basically modern jet engines have a huge intake of which approximately 75% of the air going in bypasses the compressor stages and simply encases the hot cone of efflux with a cold cone making it very quiet. The Olympus engines of the Concorde had small intakes of which all the air going in would be used making them extremely noisy.
Whilst an icon in it's era time has passed. We already have/had one 'hunk of junk' flying about with the perpetual begging bowl out being rattled and numerous disappointments with the Vulcan. A lot of goodwill and favour went into the Vulcan whilst a select few made a nice living from it! Should Concorde make a reappearance with the correct dispensations and financing it would undoubtedly be a delight and a crowd puller, hopefully not another street beggar. If you go through life with your head in the sand....all people will see is an ar5e!!

Treat every day as if it is your last....one day you will be right!!

I was lucky to go on it twice. Fabulous to experience before its demise. A piece of great britain gone forever sadly. Probably wont be long though before someone cranks one up again. If they can do it with a vulcan why not concorde?
