The guys in SA are starting to switch from the National Luna type setups to CTek setups. This allows them to have a setup with charges the Aux battery from both the vehicle's alternator and a solar source.

Something similar to this setup:

the only downside of the Ctek setup is that you cannot put both batteries 'online' to help start the engine or use the winch --

I used the National Luna Battery Box and I have it in the back so it's close to the fridge. I run 16mm2 cables from my main battery outside and back in at the back. My Monitor is up front.

This setup is nice cause the battery is portable and its easy to remove when I need more space or need it somewhere else away from the landy. I also dont like the (2 battery) setup in the battery box. Not really enough space for my comfort to hold 2 batteries safely.

Another plus is that you can run a solar cell as well when the solenoid disconnects when the car is off. You might just have to do the changeover with a manual switch.

Excellent info guys.

I'm looking at Dual Odyssey PC1500s as I already have one, using the Merlin SmartGuage to manage the cahrging - just got to figure out where to put the display, a BlueSea 12way Fuse Block and front and rear Anderson Connectors. 2013 Aintree Green 110 Station Wagon SX

If you struggle with a location for the display one idea i have seen is behind the sun visor. Flip it down have a read, link the batteries together etc. then just flip it back up out of the way again.

Warden - I'm not far from you and have a twin PC1500 + bluesea installation.

Tim at MobileCentre sells complete kits. Buying the batteries, controller and fuse box is the easy part, you also need the cables and connectors and tools to make them up.

PM me if you'd like to meet up or email some photos

I too have the twin Odysey set up from Tim at Mobile Centre but opted to make up my own cables.

There's a few pics on my FCX130 thread
