It really is simple. As Tiger explained, cut/snap the original off at the last section then screw the threaded bar into the remaining aerial left over. Crimp it with cutters/pliers/crimp tool and screw the new aerial in. Push down flush. To be honest, the thread took so well inside the original aerial that it didn't need to the crimped but did it anyway. Checked the radio and FM, MW and LW all work perfect.
