Puma bonnet on early Defender
Has anyone fitted a puma bonnet to an early Defender (1989 to be precise).

I am having my 110 tipper sprayed next week and still considering replacing the bonnet with one of the GRP puma ones.

My only concern is the bonnet prop as the one on mine is fitted to the bonnet and was wonder what mods were need to retro fit.

the grp bonnets are a pain to fit you have to adjust the slam panel to make them fit and shut nicely so do that first before having the bonnet sprayed Thumbs Up i learnt that when i brought my first one on my white 90 but now i got the blue 90 i made sure it lined up then had it sprayed, bonnet prop you could buy a td5 type one that you could fix to the slam panel Thumbs Up

Thanks for the info Thumbs Up

I picked up a brand new Genuine parts bonnet on eBay for £150 so hopefully no fitting problems and cheaper than a fiberglass bonnet. 993 Varioram - Guards Red

That's what I thought. But they can't all be bad can they. (I hope!)

Depending which header tank you have fitted to your Defender, you may need to space the header tank away from the wing slightly....

300Tdi (for example) with the large plastic header tank - you will need to space the header tank away from the wing by about 1" to stop the header tank fouling the inside of the bonnet. A 1989 Land Rover will probably still have the lower, smaller black metal header tank, and you might get away without modifying anything.
