Silver Grille
Has anyone painted a standard grille/Headlight surrounds to the kind of muted/gun metal silver look?

Mine are greying so I thought some halfords bog standard spray paint would do the job

I quite like it but dont want to shell out for new surrounds etc!

Anyone tried it? Or got pictures of a proper one? Good things come to the wild and free

I sprayed mine black, you need plastic primer and make sure you key ti first, and then spray your chosen colour. Thumbs Up You cant polish a turd!
But you can roll it in glitter Smile

Just wash it, let it dry and give it a good rub-down with WD40. Makes it a lot blacker for a good couple of months.

United Kingdom 2011 Defender 90 Puma 2.4 XS CSW Fuji White
i bought a fuji white 90xs late last year and the headlamp surrounds and grille were the brunnel finish.

i didn't like the look of it so i asked the dealer to paint them fuji white.

i spoke with the guys at the bodyshop to ask about etch primers etc. and they advised me that becasue they were painting over an existing paint finish, all that was needed was a rub down to provide a key for the paint.

the etch primer is only needed if painting a bare plastic item.

paint still on 5 months later. Very Happy

Painting plastic is actually really easy !

Halfords sell the plastic primer (use grey) and various Silvers / greys.

As has been said, a good clean first, key with wet & dry or a kitchen scourer works well, wash again and dry (airing cupboard over night). Take your time spraying, waft it over, leave to dry, do some more, don't be tempted to put too much on in one go, clear laquer afterwards for protection.

Here's my centre dash I did....

I used to spray SAAB owners front grills for them, had to be spot on with the masking Wink they didn't want to do it! Clean with brake cleaner (no residue!) and spray straight over, never had any problems, job done. Careful if you are going to key it Shocked

FCX how did you mask the pictures around the knobs or do they come off?

No, they don't come off (well they might, but they wouldn't go back on again !)

Just slip pieces of paper under the 'pictures' from the back Thumbs Up
