In between the showers today I decided to fit the newly acquired bumperettes to my '09 110. After an hour I gave up. How the hell do you fasten the outer bolts?
They're this style ![]() |

With bloody great difficulty!!
When i did mine i stuck the nuts inside the rear cross-member before fitting the bumper, using long reach angled pliers and welding wire. Was fiddly as feck though ................. Guns and Landrovers .... anything else is irrelevant. |

I had a simular problem (different bumperettes) and ran the bolts from the front of the chassis to the rear and then had the nut on the outside, there is a spacer that fits in the rear cross member you need to make sure this is in place its usually held in place by two existing bolts at the outside of the cross member that would hold the LR NAS step if one was fitted if you dont fit this you will crush the cross member as you do the bolts up DEFENDER 90 TDCI XS,
I hope everyone is well and your land rovers make you happy |

I'm using socket heads rather than the supplied button heads. I reckon I can squeeze an allen key into the gap to hold the bolt as I tighten the nut on the outside. Not pretty but practical. http://www.roadracingsupporters.com

In short, I put 2 bolts facing outwards through the X member and put a nut on each and tightened up. This left enough thread on the 25mm bolts to hang the bumperette and put a fixing nut on. the fixings towards the tow bracket(inner ones) I put through with the bumperette in place and bolted up.
I needed to step out the outer 'leg' of the bumperette as there are some fixings in the way, these hold the rear tub in place, so without modifying the 'leg' it was the easy way out ![]() |

I used a piece of flat bar, cut to length, drilled two over sized holes to align with x-member holes and tacked the nuts to it.
On one end of the plate tack a piece of welding wire or fencing wire. Holding the wire, feed the plate up in side the x-member, with the now captured nuts, into position. Start both bolts and then tighten. Da Dah…. ![]() |

Yes confused also. I had no problems other than a couple of bolts were too short so bought longer ones! What make of bumperettes are you talking about, mine were Safari Equip ones ![]() |

They're from Paddocks as per the pic below.
![]() The issue is basically that I cant get a spanner/socket onto the securing nut of the bolt that secures the outermost bracket of the bumperette. The design of the rear crossmember won't allow me to get any tool onto the nut. The "wing" of the bumperette itself makes the gap too narrow for me to hold the nut. Fishing around with an allen key I think I may be able to hold the socket head of the bolt if I reverse the nut/bolt arrangement so that the securing nut is on the outside. I'll give it a try anyway. http://www.roadracingsupporters.com |
